How I Chose TENCEL Modal Fabric | Moon & Mare

How I Chose TENCEL Modal Fabric | Moon & Mare

There was a moment when I realized this brand wasn’t about pajamas.

It was about feeling.

When I started Moon & Mare, I thought I just needed to choose a fabric.
Cotton? Modal? Something soft. Something nice.

But the more I touched samples, the more I realized — fabric changes everything.

Some felt thin.
Some felt heavy.
Some felt soft at first… and then scratchy after a few washes.
Some looked beautiful but didn’t drape the way I imagined.

And none of them felt like home.

I Didn’t Want “Soft.” I Wanted Butter.

I wanted something that felt like the moment you crawl into bed after a long day.

Not just soft — but smooth.
Not just lightweight — but fluid.
Not just pretty — but comforting.

I tested everything.

I held swatches up to the light.
I rubbed them between my fingers.
I washed them.
I slept in them.

And when I finally touched the TENCEL™ Modal sample that became Moon & Mare…

I knew.

It didn’t just feel luxurious.
It felt intentional.

Choosing Fabric Is Choosing the Feeling

Fabric determines:

  • How it drapes on your body
  • How it moves when you walk
  • Whether it feels cool or clingy
  • Whether you want to live in it… or change out of it

For Moon & Mare, I wanted something breathable but polished. Soft but structured. Feminine but elevated.

That’s why I chose TENCEL™ Modal.

It’s smooth against the skin.
It holds color beautifully (hello navy and red wine).
It feels like silk — but you can actually live in it.

This Was the Turning Point

The moment I chose the fabric… everything else became clear.

The champagne piping.
The silhouette.
The embroidery placement.
The way the set would photograph.
The way it would fold into packaging.

The fabric decided the brand.

This Is Where It Started

When you see the reel of swatches and samples — that wasn’t just content.

That was months of touching, testing, rejecting, and refining.

That was me asking:

“Does this feel like Moon & Mare?”

And finally finding something that did.

Moon & Mare was built on the belief that what you wear to sleep should feel like a ritual — not an afterthought.

And it all started with the fabric.
